A Bit Of Travel

Reader,

I'm heading to Wilmington, NC today to visit friends for the weekend. The downside of this is that I'll likely miss the Padres games tonight and tomorrow afternoon. And I also won't blog tomorrow.

For this I apologize to you, Reader.

I'll bring you back some seashells from Wilmington.

Best,
Bevormo

Travel Day

Taking the train to D.C. this afternoon for two days of meetings.

Nothing Drino, Bolt or Illini related here but let's be honest, Abe Lincoln was a beast. Is there any question he would have been an Illini fan had there been a team back in the mid-1800s? Of course not. He and a side-burned 1852 version of Bruce Weber would have smoked pipes and discussed agrarian pre-capital issues of the day. He and the 1855 version of Ron Zook would have sipped absinthe and tested each other with feats of strength.

He probably would have also liked the Cubs or Cardinals, and perhaps either the Bears or Rams. He could also have been a Kentucky fan.

No man is perfect.

The Burgh

Another nice loss last night. This one featured back-to-back bombs by two former Padres (Bay and Nady), as well as a bomb by an All Star centerfielder (McLouth) the Padres may have been able to deal for in the offseasons if they were willing to part with Chase Headley.

Not that I wanted the Padres to trade Chase. I'm just sayin ...

The Padres are now 13 games back of first and show no signs of being able to win another baseball game all season.

But there is good news.

This afternoon I'm heading to the Burgh for three straight days of Padre-Bucco baseball at PNC park.

The last time I was at PNC I saw Vinny Castilla try to score from third on a ground out to first and was thrown out to end the game. That was the only game the Drinos lost on that trip to the Burgh.

Here's hoping they find that sort of success this weekend.
