Gaudin = The One

The fate of the free world - or at least tonight's baseball game between the San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies - rests on the capable shoulders of Chad Gaudin.

I like the world's chances.

Losing Is A Disease, As Contagious As Polio ...

James Van Der Beek,

I know how you feel, man. That's the same face I made today when I saw the Padres had blown yet another late lead and lost once again to the lowly Arizona Snakenbacks.

Just a heinous set of games the last few days.

Check out this string of shyte:

Sunday: Down all game to the hated Dadgers, the Padres score five runs in the bottom of the 9th only to have the potential game-winning run thrown out at third and then to lose in the 13th on a James Loney bomb. Pads lose 7-6.

Monday: Padres lead 5-3 heading into the 8th until Luke Gregerson gives up two tying runs - punctuated by a Chad Tracy bomb - and Cla Meredith gives up the game winning single to Mark Reynolds, made possible by a 2-out walk to Justin Upton. Pads lose 6-5.

Tuesday: Padres make 3 errors in the third inning and are down 4-1 but manage to close the gap to 1-run before falling short after leaving the tying run on second with nobody out in the 8th. Pads lose 4-3.

Today: The Padres are up 2-1 going to the bottom of the 8th after a sterling start by Chad Gaudin. Unfortunately a disgusting 5-run 8th by the DBacks - set up in part by, of all things, an Adrian error - leads to yet another poor poor pitiful ending. Pads lose 6-2.

James, what would Dawson do in this situation?

I'll take ideas from anyone at this point.

Best,

The Padres Starting Rotation

Trust me, Monkey, I know how you feel. That's the exact reaction I had this morning when I woke up and read the news that the Padres were calling up Walter Silva and Wade LeBlanc to replace the injured Jake Peavy and Chris Young in the starting rotation.

I knew this was coming ever since news broke of the Peavy-CY injuries, but to actually see it in print this morning had me taken aback.

Just take a look at the five men making up the Padres starting rotation as of this moment (career numbers in parentheses):

Kevin Correia (17-27, 4.58 ERA, 1.47 WHIP)
Chad Gaudin (30-31, 4.62, 1.53)
Josh Geer (3-3, 5.04, 1.35)
Wade LeBlanc (1-3, 8.02, 2.06)
Walter Silva (0-0, 6.52, 1.76)

Doesn't exactly call to mind the 1971 Orioles. In fact, it barely calls to mind the 1971 Padres (I'd give my favorite merino full zip sweater for a little Dave Roberts and Clay Kirby right now.)

But I digress. I don't want to take anything away from these five "Gentlemen of the Mound." I'm sure they'll do the best they can and, obviously, I wish them well. In fact, when Geer throws this afternoon against the M's, I'm going to do him the honor of stopping work immediately and devoting my full attention to his outing on mlb.tv.

I figure that's the least I can do to show support for young Mr. Geer.

Good luck today, Josh.

And Monkey, relax. At least you have a sweet green turtleneck to wear.

Best,
Bevormo

A Message From Roger Dorn To Chad Gaudin

Let's cut through the crap, Gaudin.

I only got one thing to say to you about pitching tonight against the D'Backs:

Strike those mother****ers out!

Dorn

[Administrator note: Chad, Sorry, man. Dorn just stormed in here and took the reins of the blog for a moment. One second he's offering to put me in touch with his financial advisor, the next he's tapping away at a blog post. Not that I disagree with his message. I hope you do strike all those mother****ers out. Best, Bevormo.]
